party in clemson

When we moved away from Greenville I was definitely sad to leave my friends, but I knew I'd be back soon. And so last weekend we hopped in the car and drove as quick as can be to town for Austin + Mary Frances' wedding. The festivities were actually all in Clemson, but on our way in we spent the night with the the lovely Miss Carlisle, my previous nanny. She was one of the best things that ever happened to me during our time there and I have missed her so. She saw Miriam and I through those tough days and became such a dear friend when I was feeling a little lonely. Lordy, we were lucky to have her and to think we met in the Publix. That's like some crazy story you'd hear in a southern novel, but it's true. I swear it. Anyway, we didn't stop talking all evening and I didn't want to leave. On our way out of town we rolled through our old hood, North Main, and saw some cute new stores that had popped up. Of course, they opened after I left. Typical, but good for them. And our bungalow on McDonald was just shining bright, all dolled up with lights and garland. I love to think someone is enjoying it as much as we did.

Then it was on to the wedding. It was party after party and everyone was in great spirits for the reunion of sorts. Classmates of Trevor's were there and friends we'd made along the way. My favorite buddy Kathryn was there too and we seriously had the best time catching up. I'm pretty sure I didn't leave her side all weekend and we had a ball. Definitely broke out some dance moves and overindulged in the fun. The weekend was beautiful and a big success thanks to a handful of really wonderful and inviting people. We felt like we were home and I guess we kind of were.

alumni weekend

I have now been to Clemson University 3 times. Pitiful really, but it is a 45 minute drive so that's my excuse. The campus is beautiful and sits on a lake. In fact, it totally reminds me of of my days at Auburn. Apparently the same guy built both campuses. Anyway, it was alumni weekend and there was a dinner for the current & past MRED students and faculty. So hubs and I got dressed up real pretty and headed to campus. I wanted to take my camera, but thought that might be overkill meeting some of these people for the first time. So no pics, but we had fun and I enjoyed meeting the only other "wife." Saturday, Trevor woke up early for tailgate time. I passed on the game this round. Just not feeling up to tailgating at 10 o'clock in the morning and being at the cold, rainy game all day. I was a little lonesome, but busied myself with a trip to the bookstore. I can spend hours looking at all the pretty books and flipping through magazines. Plus I treated myself to a seriously delicious pumpkin spice latte. Oh my.

We had our first overnight guest over the weekend as well. An old college friend of T's was nearby at a fishing tournament so he swung into Greenville, bass boat towing behind. He had all kinds of gear, including at least 19 fishing rods. We cooked a hearty, Sunday meal and enjoyed some down time at home with a friend.

a new fan

Orange seems to be our family color. I went to Auburn (orange + blue) husband went to Tennessee (orange + white) brother went to Texas (burnt orange + white) and now husband is at Clemson (orange + purple). Hmmm... seems to be a trend that I cannot escape.

Yesterday was the start of college football, and I don't think husband could've been more excited. He was camped out in front of espn all morning until we set off for our first Clemson game. We arrived on campus and true to Southern form, there were huge spreads of food: roasting pigs, burgers & dogs, chips, dips, cooler after cooler of cold beer and even a "lowcountry boil." Croakies, polos, boat shoes and summer dresses. It was kind of like old times, except that we were a good bit older than all the students. And of course it was scorching hot which had everyone knocking a few extras back. We sat up in a box with one of Trevor's new friends and had a ball. Not bad, not bad at'all.
